   1. How Long does it take to complete a roof?

Each roofing project length is based on the project size. A professional roofing company like Masterwork Roofing, Inc. who is organized and experienced using professional quality materials the project will be seamless and will take approximately 1-2 days. Your roofing contractor will give you a firm estimate when they are able to look at your project.

   2. I have stains on my roof, can they be removed?

Yes, stains can be removed from a roof. Whether you try this yourself or when choosing a contractor to complete the job, never use a pressure washer on your roof. Even a low setting, can remove the protective granuals and shortens your roof life. 
There are several products to choose from, a professional company will have the perfect solution for the type of stain without harm to your shingles or landscaping. Ensuring your pets are out of harms way. 

   3.  How much more is a Metal roof?

Metal roofing can sometimes run as much as double the cost of a mid grade asphalt composite roof. Metal roofing materials alone are typically about twice as much in cost, and the installation of a metal roof can most often be 3-4 times longer than an asphalt composite style roof.

    4.  What is a Fire Rating?

Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is an agency that designs testing and standards for manufactured products of all kinds.

There are 3 classes of roofing fire ratings.

Class A: when a roof covering is effective against severe fire test exposures. Under such exposures, roof coverings of this class  can afford a high degree of fire protection to the roof deck, it does not shift in position, and is not expected to produce flying debris.

Class A is the highest rating attainable. Asphalt roof shingles, Concrete roofing, Clay tile roofs, and Authentic Stone Slate Roofs are in this category. Metal roofs can also qualify if   synthetic products are used as an underlayment.

Class B roof coverings are effective against moderate fire test exposures. Under such exposures, roof coverings of this class afford a moderate degree of fire protection to the roof deck, do not slip from position, and are not expected to produce flying brands.

Class C roof coverings are effective against light fire test exposures. Under such exposures, roof coverings of this class afford a light degree of fire protection to the roof deck, do not slip from position, and are not expected to produce flying brands.

Wood shakes are an example of Class C Fire Rated material.

    5.  Can a roof be installed in the winter?

Yes, if you use a professional roofing company they know the right precautions to take in all weather conditions.

A professional company with extensive knowledge and experience will design the layout correctly. 

Although a reputable roofing company is trained for all weather conditions, the extreme winter weather can extend the job beyond the typical 1-2 days to complete.

   6.  Can you still get quality wood shakes?

Yes, the quality of the shakes today are actually far superior than the wood shakes that were available years 20 years ago

 The quality of today's wood shakes are superior for two basic reasons; The ICBO board that regulates the quality standard that wood shakes are manufactured to.

There is a regulatory board known as ICBO. This governing body establishes the quality standard that shakes must be manufactured to. 

Wood shakes can be treated at the factory. Factory treatment allows the treatment to penetrate deeper for long lasting protection.

There is always a choice in product grade, wood shake is no different. Your Roofing contractor will work with you to choose the highest grade for the right price.

   7.  Can I pressure wash my asphalt composite roof?

No - A pressure washer can easily break down the manufactured composite material. The force of a pressure washer errode the granuals from the shingle. The granuals act as a UV protectant for longer life, waterproofing and to give shingles a unique look of color.

Pressure washing is not recommended since when done improperly minimally removes granules that are  important to the longevity of your roof. The thin material is also at a higher risk for getting torn by a pressure washer.

The right question is, why pressure wash anyway? The only reason is that it is a quick fix. This may only delay the inevitable of patching or re-roofing.

   8. How do I find a good roofing contractor?

The key to a high quality roof is to use a professional company with experience.

Always use a contractor that uses professional quality materials and equipment. A roof is a big investment and can increase or decrease the value of your home. Choose a roofing contractor that is Licensed, Bonded and Insured. Find a roofing company who can show you samples of their work and who will provide references upon request.
